Half Marathon Training Plan. 10K Training Plan. Marathon Training Plan
We publish your training plans and deliver them by email ahead of each season. Complete details on how to obtain your plan are found in the weekly update. If you need extra help please phone Coach Steve (208) 639-0205. The half marathon schedule starts at 3 or 4 miles. The 10K schedule starts at 1 or 2 miles, and the marathon plan starts at about 5 miles. One of the biggest challenges coaches have is getting inexperienced runners to approach the first 5 weeks at low intensity while focusing on core strength, flexibility and cross-training. You have plenty of time to add speed training once you have built a base of low miles and freedom from injury. During the first 5 weeks, focus on core strength to prevent injuries, nutrition and making new friends, all while running very conservatively.
Most Saturdays we use the greenbelt from Shoreline Park but we also use Hulls Gulch from Camel's Back Park. All groups share the common routes with coaches, water coolers when necessary and restrooms or portable toilets.
Saturday Morning Routine
Meet at 8:00am at Shoreline Park on July 20. The following week we start meeting at 7:30am. Watch the schedule and listen for announcements on various Saturday locations, either Camels Back Park or Shoreline Park or others. Most mornings we will hold group discussions where we coach you on important training topics using a open dialog and question/answer format. These discussions last approx 30 minutes before we warm-up and head out on the routes. After the workout, we take in our post-workout recovery, and have the benefit of on-site physical therapists and massage therapists for your use.
Our team of coaches work with the group each Saturday. During the week you train on your own and many people meet at various neighborhood locations. You really do not have to train alone during the week so join one of the groups, or start your own.
Each week we send via email our weekly update that includes most everything we talked about on Saturday plus information on events, clinics, coaching topics, routes, maps, directions. You are highly encouraged to read your weekly update.
