John F. Hubert Memorial Fund

In loving memory of John Hubert, the JFH Memorial Fund was established to support programs
within Active Community Wellness such as BOISE RunWalk and help
ensure that no one is turned
away for inability to pay.

 "In a way, cancer doesn't have to defeat you.
Cancer can release you, to really go for it! This is why I run."

"
We claimed the course, the course didn't claim us!"

John's comments following the '07 Georgia Marathon

John was a Lifetime member of BOISE RunWalk and enjoyed training and running with the group while contributing motivational topics as one of our favorite guest speakers over the years from 2005 up until his death in 2009. One of his passions was seeing people from various walks of life come together to train
for a long distance event, and John supported BOISE RunWalk’s vision of exercise, good nutrition and group support as important keys to better health and wellness.

John last spoke to our group on a beautiful Saturday morning, May 9, 2009, and is remembered to this
day by many of us for his talk on "Tips for Walkers and Runner's" on May 12, 2007. John held the
attention of his audiences with sage yet humble advice, and good humor about the benefits
of Boudreaux’s Butt Paste
©, his favorite skin protectant useful to us runners and walkers.

John accepted the invitation to become the founding Chairman of the Board for Active Community Wellness in August 2008. John’s set of core values centered on integrity, perseverance and exceptional customer service and together with Coach Steve teamed in the founding of the company. John served as Chair up to the time of his passing after a battle with cancer in which he ran most of his marathons and half marathons. We loved John with all our heart are forever grateful for his humble leadership, positive attitude, dry humor  and friendship.

A few highlights of John’s running career begun at age 70 during his battle with cancer:
   * Marine Corp Marathon
   * Mardi Gras Marathon
   * Race to Robie Creek
   * Zeitgeist Half Marathon
   * Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinnati
   * Las Vegas Marathon
   * Boise Foothills XC 12K
   * Table Rock Challenge 9K
   * Georgia Marathon
   * Deadwood Mickelson Trail Marathon
   * Portland Marathon

John grew up on a farm in Erie, Pennsylvania. As a youth he learned how to run the family farm before heading to college earning a degree in Engineering . Prior to his years with NASA's Apollo Project,
John served as a Captain in the US Navy. He began his running career at the age of 63 with a few 5K
and 10K runs, then a half marathon. John was "bit for good" when he ran his first 26.2, the
Marine Corp Marathon in 2005.

"As a veteran marathoner, I can say
the BOISE RunWalk training program is better than any I have experienced in Atlanta, Orlando or New Orleans. The coaching structure, particularly with
the team of coaches, the stature,
talent and teaching ability is head and shoulders above anything I have encountered. And the seminar
training is superb. Great job!"
- John Hubert, 2007
